The 23-year-old showed plenty of positive signs under Glenn Dumbrell last year but didn't return to Kangaroos after the COVID-19 break.
However the chance to play alongside former NRL player Josh McCrone has drawn him the Dragons.
"It's a bit of a sea change," Trevaskis said.
"After signing Josh McCrone, to play outside him or Sammy Elwin would be good for my game.
"I think I would learn a lot from them and talking to people they say Temora is a great club with great people and I know a few people over there already so it should be a good move."
Trevaskis was set to play with Kangaroos this year but didn't return after coronavirus restrictions put a stop to training in March.
"I think they only played seven games so I had the year off," he said.
"I don't feel like I missed out on too much being only the seven games but I'm ready to go again."
Trevaskis initiated the move to the Dragons, however McCrone was more than happy to welcome him on board.
"We're looking for any quality player we can get," McCrone said.
"Nick certainly fits that and we don't want to be recruiting people who are not going to fit in to what we are about at Temora.
"We're excited to have him.
"The fact that he is keen and sought us out to come over and have a run shows he is pretty hungry.
"He's mates with a few others here already so I don't see any problems with him fitting in."
The Dragons had their second training run of the season on Thursday with McCrone pleased with their numbers.
They look set to retain most of their side from last year and McCrone is hoping to add a few more faces after Trevaskis and Group 11 premiership-winner Jaiden Burke have come on board in the past week.
"We're not going to have the biggest side in the comp going off the couple of games I played last year so we need quality people who are willing to work and buy into what we want to do," he said.
