The Griffith club is yet to concede a goal in seven games, and shot four points clear of Wagga United, Henwood Park and Lake Albert with a 4-0 win over the Crows last week.
Wagga United will look to bounce back in a crucial clash with premiers Lake Albert, who have won their last two games, at Rawlings Park on Sunday.
"I'm happy for them (Hanwood) to be in the comp," Weir said.
"The players have to lift and find a different and smarter way to approach games (against them). They presured in the right areas and we didn't.
"I took 100 per cent of the blame for my tactics and how we prepared.
"I'm too stubborn in my ways, even after 15 minutes I knew I should have changed something.
"We were taught a lesson in a good way, we can take a lot out of it."
Wagga United will hand young defenders Julian Vieira and Zack Bendistinto starting first grade debuts, while Adrian Merrigan and Damon Hurst will return from injury.
Striker Chris Walker (medial) and defender Cam Farey (hamstring) are unavailable.
"The rivalry with Lake Albert last year was very healthy. They were always tough, physical games with real good tempo," Weir said.
"We took a lot out of last week in terms of what we did well and what we didn't, the tempo we need to play at.
"We're looking for the long weekend to have a decent rest with a few injuries we have.
"(At training) we talked about what we can do moving forward, not only to keep clean sheets but also nullify the amount of chances we're allowing.
"Lake Albert are scoring goals for fun, it's important we try and stop their supply."
The scheduled game between Leeton and Hanwood on Sunday has been deferred, with Leeton to host Kemps Creek in a state league clash on Saturday.
