Police are searching for a possibly armed bandit after a Wagga service station was robbed on Thursday afternoon.

A heavy police presence was drawn to Mount Austin's Northcott Parade around 5.15pm, with several marked patrol cars seen travelling through Central Wagga and then south on Edmondson Street at high speed soon after.
A spokesperson for NSW Police confirmed officers were called after a person robbed the service station, on the corner of Northcott Parade and Ceduna Street, of cash and cigarettes.

It is understood just one person was involved and a weapon may have been brandished in the ordeal.
The service station has been cordoned off, with multiple police on scene, as more officers trawl the neighbourhood and surrounding streets speaking to residents.
