Police say the black Honda Civic was clocked at 170km/h on the Hume Highway at Holbrook on Monday afternoon.
Highway patrol officers, who had been carrying out speed enforcement duties in the area, pulled over the sedan and spoke to the driver around 4.40pm.
"I am in a rush," police say they were told when the driver, who produced a Victorian licence, was quizzed about her haste on the road.

The woman's car has been confiscated for three months and her driving privileges in NSW suspended for three more.
She was issued a penalty notice for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h and for not keeping left unless overtaking.
The woman will also be responsible for the towing and storage fees of the vehicle, police said.
