After back-to-back wins, the Wagga bred and owned Tiggerlong Tonk was chasing a big way to exit racing.
He won his match race after being forced to do plenty of work from the outside alley.
However he had to settle for second with Aston Rupee defending his crown.
From the inside, Aston Rupee clocked 29.590 seconds.
Tiggerlong Tonk won his match race in 29.798.

Mepunga Blazer, who finished second in his match race behind Aston Rupee, finished with the third best time overall.
Owner Michael Finn was still thrilled with his efforts.
"He's one of the quickest dogs going around one out (Aston Rupee) and almost broke the track record at Sandown winning the other Speed Star," Finn said.
"He's a little bit tardy early but in those two-dogs races he is hard to beat on times but it was still a good pay day."
Tiggerlong Tonk won $12,500 for his efforts, $5000 for the match race win and another $7500 for his overall standing.
It takes his earnings to over $700,000.
While Finn is still waiting for DNA test results to return from New Zealand before Tiggerlong Tonk can start his stud career, he doesn't believe there are any more features to aim at.
"The ride is nearly over," he said.
