Ruthless Agent ($17) stormed to an upset victory in the $35,000 000 Plumbing Services Showcase Ian Reid Sprint Open Handicap (1200m) for trainer Kurt Goldman and jockey Winona Costin.
The eight-year-old, who ran in the inaugural Kosciuszko in 2018, stormed home off the back of a hot speed to score by two and a quarter lengths.
Jerilderie mare Lady Brook ($2.70) finished second, just ahead of the Gary Colvin-trained Another One ($1.70) in third.
The race dropped right away after a total of seven scratchings left a field of just eight runners.
Goldman was not surprised by Ruthless Agent's performance.
"I was quietly confident today, coming here for this race," Goldman said.
"It looked like it was going to suit...I said if the track was suiting horses that were making ground, he was going to give this race a real good shake.
"It's good to see, he's a horse that's already won a Saturday Benchmark 80 race back in his prime and obviously he's not at that level any more but a lot of these other horses were up and comers and have never really raced in that sort of company before.
"Like I said, I was quietly confident on the weights here today, on a track that he's generally run well at that he was going to give it a real good shake."
Goldman would be surprised if he landed a Kosciuszko spot but would not knock it back.
"He definitely wouldn't be my first pick or anything but he's obviously beat a pretty smart galloper there, who is obviously in the market," he said.
"Who knows. He's put his up here today. He's probably not my first seed but it wouldn't matter if someone picks him, he'll be there."
Costin was a big fan of the effort.
"When we balanced up at the top of the straight, he really exploded away from them, he was very good," she said.
