The Tigers held tough against a wasteful Southcity to take a 20-12 win at Anzac Park on Sunday.
A couple of fortuitous tries started by Ryan McQueen in either half proved to be the difference on the scoreboard.
However injured Tigers co-coach Luke Berkrey thought the attitude was the key ingredient for the premiers.
"You make your luck in this game and the boys are working a lot harder than at the start of the season in little moments," Berkrey said.
"That is why we're starting to see a little bit of luck turn our way."

Damian Willis opened the scoring after 16 minutes as the Tigers refused to let the ball die after it looked like McQueen was going to be trapped on the last near halfway.
Instead they kept coming up with options before the veteran crossed.
However Southcity hit back as Brody Tracey forced his way over with 14 minutes left in the half only for Gundagai to respond six minutes later.
Josh Smith's try gave Gundagai a 12-6 lead at half-time and despite Derek Hay missing a penalty goal they were able to extend it as Vaughn Scott scored off a Hay kick as the Tigers again refused to be brought down on the last play.
With 15 minutes to go Southcity responded after a bit of luck themselves when Kyle McCarthy kicked for himself twice to score.
The Bulls had another good chance minutes later but couldn't deliver.
Dane O'Hehir sealed the win when he forced his way over with three minutes left.
Scoring hasn't been something Southcity has struggled to do so far this season so to keep them to 12 points was the most pleasing aspect for Berkrey.
"Southcity 12 points is probably the most pleasing thing," he said.
"They've got plenty of attack in them and our guys just really showed up with a great attitude and it really felt like we were on top for the whole game.
"It was really good to see us finish strong as I thought we really earned the win and deserved the win."
The loss sees Southcity slip out of first place for the first time since round two.
Gundagai sit two points behind them and Young, and four off ladder leaders Tumut.
However after a slow start, and plenty of big names still on the sidelines, Berkrey isn't worried about the ladder.
"I'm not too worried about the ladder or anything but just how we are going and it was a step in the right direction," he said.
