Mascini played out their narrow loss to Young at Alfred Oval last week, but scans have revealed he did so with a fractured finger.
Mascini has created plenty of attacking spark for the Wagga club after shifting positions under new coach Simon Woolford this season.
The unexpected loss has Woolford assessing his options.
"It's the knuckle where the finger joins the hand so it is a tricky one," Woolford said.
"He got through the game but it pulled up sore and swollen so he got a scan and it is what it is."
However Woolford is confident they can respond in time for another big test when they take on unbeaten Southcity at Harris Park on Saturday.
James Strickland comes in at fullback.
Woolford is looking forward to giving another new face at the club his shot.
"James has been waiting for an opportunity and thankfully we have a bit of depth at fullback with James, Liam Fitzsimmons and Jack Hartnett so there are plenty of options," he said.
"While Jake has been really, really good for us I don't expect us to miss too much with James going in there."

It is expected to be the only change for the team.
Kangaroos started the season with wins over Brothers and Tumut before slipping up against unbeaten Young.
Woolford is looking for better execution up against the other unbeaten team in the competition.
"I'm looking for us to keep building our defence," he said.
"Young had scored 140 points in the first two rounds and if you take away the intercept they only scored two tries by breaking our defence down.
"We need to continue that and obviously have a lot of improvement left in us with the footy.
"We haven't played a lot of footy together and Dakota (Ruta) is just finding his feet after being out with that hamstring.
"He missed a lot of running in that four or five week period so our halves and fullback combinations are only going to get better.
"I want to see gradual improvement with the ball."
