Elwin landed awkwardly contesting a high kick and there are concerns he could face an extended stint on the sidelines.
The former Dragons player-coach shifted to Junee last year when Temora opted not to play, but was set to form one of Group Nine's most dangerous halves partnerships with Dragons coach and former NRL player Josh McCrone.
"He's a big part of our team so hopefully we can get an MRI at some point this week and get a good result from that," McCrone said.
"We don't know (what the damage is), it could be ACL or meniscus, we're not sure.
"He was just jumping up to catch a ball and got hit just as his foot hit the ground. It wasn't a change of direction issue, so hopefully it's not an ACL."
The Dragons won the match 48-6 in a promising sign they will be competitive after their one year hiatus.
"We're ahead of the numbers we thought we might have, so I'm pretty happy at the moment," McCrone said.
"There's a fair bit of work to go, The best teams in Group Nine set a fair standard, it will be a good test when we play Gundagai in round two (after first round bye)."
The Dragons may also be without prop Grant Hughes for the start of the season after he hurt his ankle in their first trial match against Forbes.

Meanwhile, Gundagai will be without emerging centre Will Herring for a period after he broke his ankle and tore ligaments during trial matches against Gungahlin and Jamberoo in Canberra on Saturday.
Herring has been earmarked as Matt Lyons' replacement after his move to Queensland Cup side Wynnum-Manly, but looks set to be out for several weeks.
The Tigers defeated Gundagai before falling narrowly to a fresh Jambaroo in the annual Joey Rose Memorial Cup clash.
"Unfortunately he (Herring) will be missing for a period at the start of the year," Gundagai co-coach Luke Berkrey said.
"I really feel for 'Hezz', he's had a massive pre-season for us and was getting his first crack at centre with Matty leaving.
"It was a great opportunity for him, but he'll definitely be back for us later in the season."
Berkrey said the trials were a chance to cast his eye over some players looking to force their way into the first grade line-up.
"It was a really good hitout for our guys. We played a lot of guys who are on the fringe of first grade and making their way into the side, as well as some up-and-coming kids.
"We got out of it what we wanted. Unfortunately there was a couple of injuries, but that's football."
Berkrey said the Joey Rose Memorial Cup will always be a special game for the club to play in.
Both clubs (Tigers and Jambaroo) treat it as a special game and it's a good reminder for everyone at both clubs to check in on people and make sure they're doing alright," he said.
