The Estella Public School had its first day on Friday and has begun its first full week with students.
Principal Tracy Delaney said it was special to be a part of the beginning of the new school.
"I feel incredibly proud, it's a huge honour and a privilege to be the foundation principal of a new school, which has been especially designed for the students of our area," she said.
"It was lovely to see the students walk in on Friday, the first foundation students of the school, walking within its walls ... it's only a building until they arrive.
"Their entrance on Friday made it a school, so it's very exciting times."
The new building itself is equipped with plenty of technology from smartboards in classrooms to automatic temperature control which opens and closes windows to depending on the weather.
Each student will receive a laptop, and have classes in a 'flexible learning' hub which includes four classrooms and a shared breakaway activity space.
Speaking on Monday, Ms Delaney said enrolments for the new school were still in flux as more students are signed up each day.
"It's not too late to enrol, we're open for learning and we're currently taking enrolments, we've had some enrolments this morning and we'll continue to take enrolments throughout the year," she said.
The school has a capacity of 480, which Ms Delaney said the school would work towards reaching in the coming months and years.
She said enrolments were especially strong in the earlier year levels, with kindergarten and years 1-4 attracting high numbers already.

Ms Delaney said while a temporary entrance had been set up at the back of the school while roadworks continue on Estella Road, all the buildings on site had been completed for a smooth start to the year.
"The first day was lovely, the teachers were very excited as well to see their students enter for the first time," Ms Delaney said.
She said the roadworks are "due to be completed shortly."
Ms Delaney completed her education in Wagga, began her career at Kooringal Public School and most recently was principal at Junee Public School.
She said there were plenty of locals among Estella's teaching staff as well.
"We had a very rigorous recruitment process and we're very fortunate we've been able to appoint, full time, some very experienced and very dedicated and committed staff," she said.
Among the facilities of the new school is a staff space, which includes dedicated facilities for professional learning which will be shared with Charles Sturt University and made available to the wider Wagga education community.
The school will use a neighbouring oval, as well as green space behind the school once grass is established.
Ms Delaney said the school was designed to reflect the flow of the Murrumbidgee River and the region's Wiradjuri heritage, with buildings facing a central courtyard which has established trees designed to provide shade as they grow.
