Kangaroos shape to be the big movers in this year's Group Nine competition after landing six signings alongside new coach Simon Woolford.
Maher spent last season with crosstown rivals Brothers and was co-coach of Cootamundra in 2019 but has opted for a fresh start as part of a new-look Kangaroos outfit.
Kangaroos president Peter Hurst believes Maher will provide valuable versatility for the Wagga club as they look to return to Group Nine finals.
"He offers good flexibility across the park," Hurst said.
"You've got the option of playing him in the centres or in the back row and it's just going to give us a lot of flexibility.
"I know it's bush footy but he's got a semi-professional attitude. He's a good trainer, good fella and he'll help build the foundation around our young kids coming through.
"He's a good get for us and we're happy to have him on board."
Maher, 29, joins Noa Fotu, Brayden Sharrock, Andre Iro, Luke Ingram and Dakota Ruta as new recruits for Kangaroos.
Maher was in attendance on the track this week as Kangaroos resumed their pre-season training. It proved to be an exciting week for the club as Woolford took his first session in charge on Thursday night.
Hurst is happy with how Kangaroos are building for the upcoming season.
"It's been a strategy of ours over the last couple of seasons to bring in quality players to help foster our juniors and local guys," he said.
"We know we had to address a few things to be more competitive and become one of the contenders. To take on the bigger packs we had to add some size and we've been able to do that."
