Brothers lose Aaron Wynne ahead of finals campaign

Hooker Aaron Wynne has been ruled out for the rest of the season following the 44-18 loss to Tumut at Twickenham on Saturday.

Wynne was taken from the ground by paramedics after being on the end of a high shot from Zac Masters midway through the first half.

Despite being cleared of any spinal fractures, Wynne is unable to play for the rest of the season.

Brothers captain-coach Cameron Breust knows it will be another big loss for the team.

Especially after his presence was clearly missed against the Blues.

"Losing Wynney quite early really hurt," Breust said.

It comes after the Wagga side lost lock Liam Carey to a serious facial injury earlier in the month.

The Wynne incident was reviewed on Monday and Masters was found not to have a case to answer.

It means he will be free to play Gundagai in the battle for the minor premiership at Anzac Park on Saturday.

Meanwhile Brothers will be looking to regroup as they strive to hold onto third place on the ladder, and have home ground advantage for their elimination finals clash with Young, when they tackle Kangaroos at Equex Centre on Saturday.

Their crosstown rivals only have one win to their credit but are looking to finish on a high.

Breust wants the team to respond from a disappointing performance.

"We got beaten by a better team on the day," he said.

"They are the benchmark and were very, very good."

"The top two are very close but they are very different teams.

"We were out-muscled, out-powered and it is a little bit disappointing."

Brothers have only two twice this season, to the two undefeated ladder leaders, and Breust is still searching for consistency from his side who struggled to contain a fast start from the Blues.

"We needed to string 80 minutes but only put 40 minutes together and were just out-classed," he said.

In some good news second rower Chris Maher was also found to have no case to answer after the video review of his sin binning.
