Greyhound Racing NSW officials joined Wagga and District Greyhound Racing Club's hierarchy, Wagga City Council representatives and local participants for the launch of the city's Million Dollar Chase carnival on Wednesday.
Wagga will host heats of the million dollar race on Friday night, followed by the regional final on Saturday week, September 28.
Greyhound Racing NSW are excited about the Saturday night meeting where not only will some of Australia's fastest greyhounds race, but also country music star Adam Harvey will perform.
Greyhound Racing NSW general manager racing operations, Wayne Billett, has encouraged the city to get behind the big event.
"That Wagga was chosen as one of the venues to host a concert featuring a world-class entertainer, is a fitting reward for all that John Patton and the club do to grow the sport in the region, and for all the support the sport receives in this region," Billett said.
"The club has drawn some fantastic heats for Friday night, with Black Opium, one of the country's best greyhounds, beginning her chase towards the $1 million first prize here in Wagga.
"You will have some quality racing, with the added attraction of Adam Harvey performing on Regional Final night, September 28, so we are hoping it gives people who have never been to a greyhound meeting, another reason to visit the track, spend some money at the club and enjoy the experience.
"And in terms of value, you'll get great racing, and an entertaining evening, and then on top of that a concert from a superstar country music entertainer...all for less than the cost of a burger."
Wagga is one of 14 regional centres hosting regional heats and finals, which will this year supply 56 of the 64 semi-finalists.
The first four dogs from the Wagga regional final will progress to the semi-finals at Wentworth Park on October 11.
Eight of those semi-finalists will advance to the grand final on October 18 for a shot at the $1 million first prize, the richest prize in the world of greyhound racing.
The first race at Wagga on Friday night starts at 6.48pm, with the first of three Million Dollar Chase heats at 8.05pm.
Black Opium, who has run second at group one level on three occasions, is in the third heat at 8.44pm.
