Mattingly was rewarded for a stellar season with a win in the Morrison Medal on Monday night for best and fairest in the league.
It gave him the trifecta for the year after also taking out the media award and coach's MVP.
"(It feels) amazing. It was a pretty proud moment," Mattingly said.
"I was quite nervous at the time. They didn't have a leaderboard so we were scrambling around trying to count where I was at.
"Originally I was in a lot of shock but also extremely happy."
Mattingly, 23, is in his second season at Kyabram.
They went through undefeated last year until grand final day, where they lost to Shepparton.
They have gone through undefeated again and will take on Echuca in Sunday's grand final at Deakin Reserve in Shepparton.
"I'm nervous, especially after last year," he said.
"Nervous just because it's going to be a cracking game. It's been us and Echuca most of the year and now we're finally there with the grand final in front of us."
"I'm a little bit nervous but looking forward to it at the same time. I can't wait to get out there."
After spending last season on a wing, Mattingly has moved on-ball for Kyabram this year with great success.
Mattingly said the Morrison Medal win was certainly a career highlight to date, but hopes a premiership can take over as his number one moment in a few days time.
"I played in a grand final last year but obviously wasn't lucky enough to win," he said.
"Hopefully that will be the highlight come the weekend. Like everyone else, I don't play for individual awards but it's nice to be recognised for all the hard work that I've put in."
It will be a big weekend for the Mattingly family with his younger brother, Jack, to play in the under 17 Riverina League grand final on Saturday.
Mattingly thanked his mum Ros and his late father Harry for everything they did for him growing up in his acceptance speech on Monday night.
Mattingly played at Turvey Park up until under 17s, that included two years in the Bulldogs' seniors. He then spent a season at Corowa-Rutherglen, where his mum's family is, before moving to Melbourne to have two seasons at Coburg.
He has represented Vic Country for the past two seasons.
