The Bulls five-eighth will take over the coaching reins next season with Kyle McCarthy's tenure set to come to an end after two years.
Rose has been plagued with injury problems, but is excited for the opportunity to lead Southcity in 2020.
However the 24-year-old is definitely not looking too far ahead.
Instead he's looking to shake off a reoccurring hamstring problem in order to make an impact for the Bulls come finals time.
"It's a bit daunting, and I'm definitely excited at the same time, but the main thing is concentrating on this year to end up in the best place we can to have another shot at the grand final," Rose said.
"Then you can let next year come."
Rose had been sought out for potential coaching roles at other clubs before, but didn't think he was ready for the responsibility.
However he now feels the time is right.
Southcity are eyeing a place in their fourth straight grand final and have a fairly established side.
However Rose is looking forward to working more with their young talent and hopes coming into the role can help revitalise the club.
"It's about trying to keep the boys close and bringing some of my new ideas to try and freshen up the place," he said.
"There's nothing wrong at the moment but you want the boys looking forward to going to training each week."
Rose has been limited to six games this season after a knee and then three hamstring problems wreaked havoc.
He's hoping to return in time for finals, which start on August 31, didn't hasn't locked in a return date.
"I'll just keep poking away with my rehab and if I can get back on the field in finals time I will but if not it is what it is and I'll have to leave it until next year," Rose said.
Southcity football manager Matt Ward explained it was the next step in Southcity's long term plan.
"He's primed, ready and going to be a really good coach," Ward said.
Just as Nick Skinner did before him, McCarthy is expected to remain at the club in a playing role.
