The Bulls came out firing as they looked to take a big step towards securing a finals berth, jumping to a 14-0 lead early in the clash, but couldn't sustain the pressure.
The two sides went into the break locked at 14-all before a Hamish Pennington penalty followed by a Will Whiteley interception proved to be the difference in the second half.
Ag College coach Will Mitchell still wasn't thrilled with the 24-14 victory.
"It's frustrating as we're just not playing smart footy," Mitchell said.
"We played straight into Tumut's hand and they came out firing.
"We didn't change our attack too quickly and that's when you get into these sticky situations."
However they found enough strike power late to bounce back from just their second loss of the season.
Tumut were on the verge of scoring themselves and deciding to go for the try instead of leveling things up from a penalty before Whiteley plucked a long pass from Stephen Gill and raced virtually the length of the field to score the winner.
Ben Brooke and Sam Chalmers were strong in the forwards while Joe Hamblin made a good impact on the wing.
The win leaves Aggies in second place on the ladder while Tumut are fifth and now four points outside a finals berth.
They will be looking to bounce back against Leeton, but will be sweating on the fitness of Menzies Seumanatafa (foot), while Ag College tackles Wagga City.
