The pair work together at AFL NSW-ACT, developing the game at grassroots level. But on Saturday, the pair will face off in a potential shootout at Crossroads Oval as they look to do their best to get their teams over the line in what shapes as an intriguing battle.
Collingullie-Glenfield Park are still looking to find their feet after an interrupted start to the Riverina League season and will host a Ganmain-Grong Grong-Matong team that have shown they will again be a force to be reckoned with.
Walsh, 26, has played a major part in the Lions' strong start to the year, swinging from centre-half-back to centre-half-forward with great success.
In fact, with 13 goals from his first three games, Walsh leads the Riverina League goalkicking.
"I'm enjoying playing forward for the moment," Walsh said.
"Centre-half-forward is not always an easy position to play but the first couple of weeks have been pretty good and I've kicked straight, which is the main thing."
Geppert has been almost a mainstay at the top of the Riverina League goalkicking over the past decade, but Walsh's start to the year has suggested there is a new spearhead in the office.
It and their impending showdown this week has created plenty of discussion in the office but Walsh has stayed out of it.
"Everyone else in the office has been pretty chirpy about that but I know I'm going to need a lot bigger headstart than that so I've been staying pretty quiet," Walsh said.
Geppert has enjoyed Walsh's big start to the season.
"I'm thoroughly enjoying it and being able to take a bit of a back seat to Walshy going down media street," Geppert said.
"Working with the AFL, it's a little bit easier to get access to you than say a tradie on a work site and Walshy has found that out the hard way in his first 12 months working here."
Walsh said there has been little discussion about Saturday's game this week.
"There has been a little bit of banter, not too much," he said.
"We've been staying out of each other's way I guess."
Geppert, a former Lion himself, expects GGGM to prove formidable opponents.
"They're a side that is always hard to play against," he said.
"I think it's just the brand that they play and they match up against us well. They're well coached by (Christin Macri) and they're a side that it doesn't matter where they are on the ladder, they are never easy to play."
Walsh, the Lions' captain, hopes his team can measure up against the reigning premiers.
"It's hard to line up because even though it's round four, we haven't played the same opposition yet," he said.
"They've obviously had a change in personnel but if we can play the footy we've played over the last three weeks then hopefully we can get over the line but we've got a lot of respect for them."
