Expected to open in early 2021, the Holiday Inn will feature 148 rooms as part of a six-storey building, making it the largest hotel in the city.
The new building will incorporate the existing heritage of The Mill, and offer an indoor bar, restaurant and Mediterranean-themed piazza.
The hotel will also provide a first-class function and conference centre, capable of hosting private and corporate events of more than 300 guests.
According to the planned hotel's owners, the development of The Mill is part of a $37 million investment into the city and is anticipated to create 120-150 jobs during construction, followed by around 60-80 ongoing positions once the hotel opens.
Wagga mayor Greg Conkey said the hotel development was a good fit with the city's reputation as a progressive regional capital in NSW.
“Our city continues to attract large-scale events which bring 1.3 million visitors to Wagga each year. A development of this calibre is sure to support the city as a preferred destination for business and leisure events,” Cr Conkey said.
The Mill Development owner Yu Xiao said bringing accommodation of this size to Wagga would put the region on the map as the business hub of NSW.
“Wagga is the largest inland city in NSW and the hub of the Riverina region, so it’s crying out for a large scale, internationally branded hotel," he said.
“We are confident that a globally branded hotel of this calibre will help build Wagga’s credentials as a business destination."
