The announcement comes just days after news that Wagga’s Napoleon Perdis store was one of 28 outlets to be closed after its parent company went into voluntary administration.
There has been speculation about the future of the Wagga Ed Harry store since it was announced last month that voluntary administrators Brendan Richards and Gayle Dickerson had been appointed to the parent company, Specialty Mens Apparel Pty Ltd, after a tough year for the clothing chain.
The Wagga store is one of 87 Ed Harry outlets around Australia.
“Unfortunately, and despite having run a comprehensive sale of business campaign, there have been no viable offers received for the ongoing operations of the company,” said Mr Richards on Thursday.
“As such, the administrators have no alternative other than to progress to an orderly wind down of the company’s operations.”
Mr Richards said he expected this would occur over a period of the next six to eight weeks, while all stock is sold off and the company’s operations fully wound down.
There is still no exact date as to when the Baylis Street store will stop trading.
“Despite a thorough sale campaign being undertaken, there has been limited interest from the market in the business as a going concern,” Mr Richards said.
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank Ed Harry’s loyal staff, customers, and landlords for their continued support over the administration – and we look forward to the ongoing support from stakeholders over the remainder of the administration period in order to maximise the return to creditors.”
David Clark, the managing director of the South Australia-based retailer paid tribute to Ed Harry team around the country for their support.
“Our team members and our customers have been incredibly supportive and on behalf of the directors I just want to say thank you, this is a sad time for all those who have put so much into our business,” said Mr Clark.
