An unknown number of employees have lost their jobs and the payout of entitlements will depend on votes by the chain’s creditors.
The city’s Wagga Marketplace store, which was temporarily shut on Thursday for a stocktake, was one of 28 stores marked for closure by the administrators on Monday.
Administrator Simon Cathro from the Worrells firm said an assessment of each of the chain’s 56 stores had been completed over the weekend “factoring in past performance, the right sizing of the business as a whole and the location”.
“As result of this review we have identified a number of stores that will be closed,” he said.
“This decision has not been taken lightly and we are aware that this will have an impact on employees and customers.
“These staff will be paid their wages owing up to the date they are terminated. Some staff have been offered other roles within the Napoleon Perdis Group.”
The Daily Advertiser asked administrators to clarify how many jobs had been lost at the Wagga store.
A Worrells spokesperson said they did not have that information and the payout of any entitlements and accrued leave would depend on a vote at a second meeting of creditors.
The first meeting of creditors has been scheduled for February 12 via conference call across Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth.
Napoleon Perdis, named after its founder, was established 24 years ago.
“I want to say a big thank you to the staff who have all tirelessly gone above and beyond during this challenging time. (Monday’s) closures are a necessary and anticipated step in the restructuring process,” Mr Perdis said in a statement issued by the administrators.
“And while it feels like a sad time, this is not goodbye, and it gives us the best opportunity to keep the business trading through the administration process. We’ll be back in a new, more dynamic and innovative way.”
Following a stocktake on Thursday, the Napoleon Perdis stores held a 30 per cent discount sale.
Administrators hope to find a buyer for the Napoleon Perdis business.
