In December 2018, the staff of the Wagga Botanic Gardens Zoo announced they wanted to rehome four young peacocks.
After The Daily Advertiser published a story about the plan, zoo manager Jon Nicoll had more than 80 calls from hopeful owners, who wanted a bird despite their reputation for being noisy.
Mr Nicoll said the staff finally settled on three suitable new homes for the feathered foursome.
One of the beautiful young birds has already settled into a new Wagga “nest”, while another one will shortly also be rehomed in Wagga.
The remaining two are heading for Corowa, and should be on their way soon.
Would-be owners who missed out this time should not rule out having another shot at owning a former zoo peacock.
There are still about 15 of the birds at the zoo, and Mr Nicholl described them as “pretty prolific breeders”.
