Wagga City Council’s manager of community services, Madeleine Scully, said in April, the intergenerational event will be back.
“Fresh will be a month-long program of talks, workshops and events,” she said.
“Wagga is a diverse community and the concept behind Fresh is to offer a range of activities, some of which are more targeted at older or younger community members and some of which bring people of different ages, backgrounds and cultures together.
“The program is being finalised.”
Ms Scully said council collected evaluation surveys throughout the festival and this feedback has been used to develop the program for 2019.
“More than 3700 people of all ages and backgrounds took part in Fresh events in 2018, with 95 per cent of survey respondents agreeing the program had a good variety of events and activities to choose from that were inclusive,” she said.
“Out of the 44 events across the month of April, four were cancelled due to being undersubscribed, which was similar to previous years’ Seniors Festivals and Youth Weeks.
“Council staff have been working closely with the Senior Citizens Club of Wagga, with members of the club hand-picking a number of talks, workshops and other events for the seniors component of the 2019 Fresh program.”
Senior Citizens Club president Ellen Downey said she is pleased to see the event will be returning.
“We are hoping it will be successful and we will be working with council,” she said.
The seniors' Fresh program will be available both online and in print with full event details listed.
Ms Scully also said the Wagga Local Achievement Awards will be presented on 22 February.
“The seniors' awards recognise and celebrate the contributions of a diverse group of active leaders and community role models who undertake volunteer and unpaid activities,” she said.
Nominations for the awards close this Friday, visit wagga.nsw.gov.au/wwlaa.
