A number of Country Championships hopefuls again went up against each other in a trial leading up to the Southern District qualifier at Albury on February 23.
Forever Newyork won the 1000 metre trial, marginally ahead of fellow Wagga contenders Takookacod and Lady Mironton.
Albury gallopers Arthur Porrit and Lost Command, who are both eligible for the Championships, were a further three lengths back.
It was Forever Newyork’s third trial win since December and his fifth trial this preparation as trainer Gary Colvin nurses the five-year-old back to his best.
He is set to have his final lead-up run for the Country Championships at a Friday night Canterbury meeting next month.
Lady Mironton will head to Albury on February 8 for his lead-up run, while Takookacod is likely to have a start at metropolitan level.
