It wasn’t an ideal start to the tournament with Southern Highlands handing Wagga a 4-0 drubbing in their opening game but the young side fought back with a gritty 3-2 win over Metro South West to sit evenly balanced at the midway mark.
A classy 9-4 win over North West Sydney on Saturday kept their grand final dreams alive but Wagga couldn’t find a win in their last pool game, drawing 5-all with Illawarra South Coast.
The side nevertheless had plenty to play for on Sunday in their fifth-place final and proved a cut above Tamworth, running out 5-0 victors.
