Coming off a draw against South Wagga, the Cats finished their 40 overs at 5-216 against Kooringal Colts at Harris Park on Saturday.
It was far too much for Colts to chase down as they fell 66 runs short.
Looking to adopt an aggressive approach at the start of the innings, Wagga City captain Josh Thompson led from the front.
He made a quickfire 24 at the top of the innings before Nicoll and Tom Burge (29) put on 65 for the second wicket.
“We tried something a little bit different as far as batting goes and we really capitalised at the end,” Thompson said.
“I was pretty happy with what we did.
“We decided to go a little bit harder up front and while it didn’t really pay off this week quick runs are always better in that first 10.”
Harry Rosengren converted on the positive start with 29 as part of a 66-run partnership with Nicoll.
Max Harper struck early to remove Saxby Harrison (0) before Dean Crane picked up the key wicket of David Bolton (33).
However Colts recovered and were 2-101 losing Zac Hines (26), Keenan Hanigan (29) and Sam Whitfield (1) in quick succession to end any real hope of chasing down the big total as they finished at 7-160.
Thompson was thrilled with Crane’s performance as he finished with the tidy figures of 1-17 off eight overs.
“He’s a class above at the moment and very hard to hit,” he said.
“He got under Bolts’ skin a little bit and made him play a rash shot, which is unlike him this year, but we were happy with the result.”
