The Blues finished day one of the clash at 5-252 but captain Jeremy Rowe is looking for more runs at McPherson Oval.
Wary of the Cats batting power, the Blues are expected to take the chance to add to their first day total when play resumes.
“We aren’t 100 per cent just yet, but there is a high likelihood we will come in for a little cameo next week, look to score really quickly and give ourselves a total where we can set really attacking fields and back our bowlers to get the job done from there,” Rowe said.
South Wagga have fallen short of victories after posting big totals a couple of times over the past few seasons.
Rule changes allowing teams to play out a draw it has something that has cost the Blues, but Rowe is undetered with the likes of Aaron Maxwell, Josh Thompson and Jon Nicoll at the top of the order.
“We’ve got genuine respect for their batting line-up with Maxy, Thommo and Jono all having the ability to make big scores and are backed up with a pretty good support crew,” Rowe said.
“We don’t want to be at a stage where all of a sudden you are looking to defend a game.
“We want to be all out attack trying to win the game for the full 80 overs next week and if that means we have to come back for five to make an extra 30 or 40 then we are comfortable with that.”
Wagga City are the only team to get the better of South Wagga this season and are looking to remain unbeaten.
Thompson won the toss and sent the Blues in but Rowe was pleased with how his side responded in the big clash.
“When they send you in you’ve got the right of reply and our response was pretty good I feel,” he said.
Brayden Ambler led the way with a patient 88 on Saturday.
He and Rowe combined for a 89-run opening wicket partnership before the skipper was removed by Jon Nicoll for 50.
The Blues were also well supported by Joel Robinson (40) and Blake Harper (28) while Warren Clunes is unbeaten on 19, but not expected to play on day two.
“Brayden’s innings was tremendous,” Rowe said.
“Last week I spoke about the maturity of Alex Jones and the way he went about his business and this week it was definitely Brayden’s turn.
“There was probably a three or four over period where he was hitting the ball really cleaning but hitting them straight to fielders.
“In the past that has been something that has challenged Brayden, as he hadn’t been getting value for shots, but he saw that period out and on the back of it scored really quickly for a 20 or 30-run period and certainly was the mainstay of their innings.”
Wagga City are one point clear on top of the ladder after their Twenty20 clash with Wagga RSL was washed out on Friday.
