Four of the Bulls top six made half centuries at Robertson Oval on Saturday before captain Kurt Robertson chipped in with 30 before the premiers were bowled out for 319.
Jesse Hampton top scored with 70 but it was birthday boy Jacson Sommerville (57) and Josh Coyte (50) who kicked things off at the top of the order after being put in to bat.
In his return from a back injury Coyte made his presence known as the pair put on 101 for the first wicket and put St Michaels on the back foot.
Adam Newcombe (56) and Hampton then put on 78 for the fifth wicket partnership before the Bulls accelerated towards the end of the innings.
Robertson was pleased with the batting performance.
“We were pretty patient throughout the whole day and continued to build and set ourselves up for a good attacking session in the last 15 to 20 overs,” Robertson said.
“We nearly doubled our score with about 25 overs to go and were pretty pleased as 300 was the goal at the start of the day and we’ve just got past that.
“I’m happy a few goes hit some runs and everybody really contributed.”
The returning Jack Reynolds was the best of the Saints bowlers with 3-57 off 15, but they will need a massive effort to chase down the total on Saturday.
