Colts bowled out Wagga RSL for 117 at Wagga Cricket Ground on Saturday before seeing out the first 20 overs of their own innings.
They will resume at 0-36 with Daniel Perri (21) and Dave Bolton (13) at the crease.
Captain Keenan Hanigan is thrilled by how his side have positioned themselves after a slow start to the season.
“I won the toss and I was pretty unsure of what I wanted to do but in the end we sent them in not knowing what the pitch was going to go after the bit of rain this week, but we definitely had a good day,” Hanigan said.
“These are the games where we have to do well, we go into every game trying to win, but especially against teams sitting around us on the ladder we have to find that motivation to beat them.”
He believes having the 10 wickets in hand is the key to next week.
Hanigan led the way with the ball.
He took 4-40 off 18.5 overs but each of the six Colts bowlers used all picked up at least one wicket.
After snaring his first wicket in first grade last week, and then his second, Kyle Hockley finished with 2-10 off five overs.
Hanigan is impressed by how the teen has improved this season.
“He got two key wickets real early which will be a big boost to his confidence,” Hanigan said.
