The Blues staked their case as competition heavyweights with a comfortable 25-run victory at Harris Park but the Colts showed enough fight with bat and ball to keep their captain well and truly on board.
“We barely had enough players to put two teams together and I think we eventually ended up with the bare 22,” Hanigan said.
“That being said, I thought we ended up going alright in both games and I thought the bowling effort in firsts was really good for the first 15 or so overs.
“But South Wagga with the likes of Blake Harper are a really good side and probably favourites to win it and we just let them off the hook in those last three or four overs.
“They bagged 15 runs of that last over and I think that hurt us a bit because, at the end of the day, they only beat us by 25 runs.
“I guess we still lost though, so we’re obviously keen to turn that around.”
Hanigan was Kooringal’s top-scorer with 35 runs from second drop and put on a 49-run partnership with Matt Etchells but said he would be putting himself further down the order for next weekend’s clash with Wagga RSL.
“I was definitely batting a bit higher than I’d usually like … and we’ll have a few batters back next weekend so I’ll drop back down then.”
“We should have Sam Whitfield and Zac Hines back in and they’re both handy batsmen.”
