Planet Fitness first flagged it would open in Wagga in June after securing a building in the old Masters building on Hammond Avenue.

Despite commentary on the gym's Facebook page, where potential members have been seeking updates on an opening for weeks, general manager Sandy Ward said the community has been supportive.

Ms Ward, who moved to Wagga from the Central Coast in June to be at the helm of the venture, said she is keen to share an environment that she found the key to a transformation.

"I was 130 kilos, and I'd spent thousands of dollars in different gyms," she said.

"When I started to lose weight for the first time, it was at Planet Fitness.

"Now I can help people who were in my situation. My life has changed because of these guys."

It was enough to see Ms Ward leave a job in management and completely shift careers. She comes to Wagga after running gyms in Auburn and on the Central Coast, and has 11 staff ready for the opening.

With delays in construction almost at an end, the gym that sells itself as a judgement-free zone is due to open by the end of January.

"The next two weeks is critical, we've got a lot of equipment coming in," Planet Fitness's chief operating officer Danielle Monroy said.

"We have a warehouse of building supplies in Sydney, but we had trouble getting the manpower."

A pre-opening membership drive has attracted more than 2000 sign-ups, Ms Monroy said.
