Logan informed president Geoff Harrison of his decision last week and steps down, effective immediately, after 18 years on the board.

Logan was regarded as a hard-working director, who was chairman of the club's works and tracks committee.

Harrison paid tribute to Logan's contribution to the club.

"Mark's been a great supporter of the club," Harrison said.

"He was a hands-on person, he would pick up a shovel, pick up a table whenever he had to. That was in between talking on the phone, which he's very good at that!

"He's been on the board a long time and done a terrific job. He felt like he couldn't contribute anymore and there's a bit more enthusiasm there with the young guys now.

"The last 15 years the club has really turned the tide from where it was to where it is now, it's been a hard road for 15 years and the club is in the position it is today through board members like Mark who have put the effort in."

While the decision surprised many, Logan admitted he had been considering the move for some time.

"My time's done. It's been 18 years," Logan said.

"I probably should have got out before the elections, I had been thinking about it. I haven't had a blue with anyone or anything, I've just done my time and leave on my terms."

Logan has been on the Wagga Selling Agents' Association for 38 years, where he is the current chairman, and will also step down there next June.

He remains open to other opportunities and will still be available for charity auctions, among other things.

Logan said he would have loved to have seen the club's new $6.8 million stable complex through but is content knowing it is close to a reality.

"I was hoping to go through and be part of the stable complex but now we've got it going in the right direction and the work's been done to make sure it happens," he said.

"Two or three years ago it might not have but Harro's done so much work to get it shovel ready.

"The works and tracks committee is going forward too so I leave with good heart."

Logan has no plans to get out of racing. A keen owner, he hopes to be on hand to watch his horses win plenty of races in coming years.

Harrison said the MTC will not rush to replace Logan and may even wait to the next board elections.

"We're not going to rush to replace him," Harrisons said.

"We don't have to, as far as our constitution goes. If the right person comes along, all well and good, if not then we'll go through to the elections."

The club will appoint a new chairman of the works and track committee at Tuesday night's board meeting.
