Local group Colab Creative are in the midst of organising the finer details for the Lake Albert event, which will be the first time in three years the city has heralded in the new year with fireworks.
As well as the colourful display, the Light The Lake event will also include live performances from local bands in Apex Park, roaming entertainment, multiple food stalls and "activation areas" across the lakeside.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Event manager Oliver Hoffmann said he was proud to help organise the highly anticipated celebration after a tough couple of years for Wagga residents.
"We're locals so we wanted to see the event rekindled and going again," he said.
"It will be Wagga's first big event post-COVID which will be exciting and we're expecting very big crowds."
The event comes off the back of the cancellation of the 2019 display due to bushfires and a scaled-down event in 2020 due to COVID-19.
Mr Hoffmann hoped the community would appreciate the change to spread out around the lake and enjoy the family friendly event.
"It's the perfect spot to have it on the water because you get the best view of the fireworks with the reflection and everything else so I think everybody will be excited," he said.
Fellow event manager Matt Luff said there will be plenty on offer in terms of music and entertainment.
"We've got a good main stage [at Apex Park] with a few local acts," he said.
"We've got The Cable Guys starting off and then we've got Reckless - another local band - and then The Groove Factory."
Wagga City Council's events officer Sally Manning said the day will be a "great event" for families and friends to gather together after a tough couple of years.
"When people think fireworks they think New Year's Eve naturally, so it's nice to have them back," she said.
"The fireworks always look beautiful here and I think the lake is in its prime at the moment, so why not come out and celebrate?"
