The VFL called the home and away season off this week and announced a finals series, featuring Greater Western Sydney (GWS), to get underway from September 4.
Under the match ratio ladder, the Giants finished eighth and are due to play the undefeated Footscray team in the opening week of the new-look finals series.
However, if the COVID situation in Melbourne does not improve, they will be eliminated and a top four series will be adopted.
Grintell, who has been travelling with the Giants' AFL squad for the past five weeks, is not holding out hope for the VFL finals.
But he is loving the opportunity to live the life of an AFL footballer.
"Yeah it's good. It's good being able to train and play with AFL players," Grintell said.
"I could get used to it quite easily."

Grintell and the Giants' VFL team have not played an official game since late July. Instead, they have been holding practice games.
Grintell has not only played for the Giants, but also helped fill in for clubs such as Essendon and North Melbourne.
"We played 12 on 12 on the weekend against the Tigers," he said.
"It wasn't too bad. They shortened up the ground. We're still getting games in."
Grintell is likely to stay with the Giants in Melbourne until the start of the under 19 national championships in late September.
