After a draw with third-placed Albury last month, the Tigers fought back to take a 16-14 win over fourth-placed Kangaroos at Anzac Park on Saturday.
Emma Patterson crossed twice in the second half to give Gundagai a big confidence boost heading into finals.
Especially after their eight-point lead evaporated midway through the second stanza.
Playmaker Monique Luff believes it will be a great learning experience for the young side.
"I think we proved we're a top-five side," Luff said.
"We not only did we prove that to everyone but to ourselves and confidence is huge thing for a young side."

After Patterson streaked away for an intercept try to extend Gundagai's half-time advantage to 12-4, Kangaroos got back into the contest after a glut of penalties.
First Shannon Pike found Sophie Gaynor in space close to the try line before Caitlin Guinan crossed out wide to give last year's grand finalists a 14-12 lead.
However when Kangaroos gave away a penalty in possession the Tigers pounced.
Firstly Laci Bower made a break and was just stopped short of the line before Gundagai spin the ball out wide to find Patterson.
The win has Gundagai three points clear of Southcity with games against Young and the Bulls in the final two rounds.
They can guarantee their finals place up against the premiers at Anzac Park on Sunday.
The Cherrypickers have only two wins to their credit so far while the Bulls, who had the bye, face a tough challenge against Temora.
Meanwhile top two sides Brothers and Temora continued their winning ways.
The Dragons, who took a 20-0 win over the Tigers last week, also held Young scoreless at Alfred Oval on Sunday.
Matilda McCrone and McKenna Henman both scored doubles in the 40-0 win.
Brothers also made light work of winless Junee, taking a 54-4 victory at Laurie Daley Oval on Saturday.
