"I would have liked to stay in Wagga but albeit I was offered the job there and it was too good of an offer to say no to," Shultz said.
Shultz will oversee four more race meetings in the SDRA and finish up on August 20.
Racing NSW has already began advertising for his replacement, with applications closing on August 9.
Shultz said he will miss the SDRA.

"I'm certainly not going to miss the four hours in the car to the Hays and Balranalds. As much as I do love the race meetings out there and the places, I don't enjoy the drive out and drive back," he said.
"We'll certainly miss Wagga. It was actually five years ago the weekend just gone that we moved down. It's been pretty good to us. Certainly coming down here, we were a little bit 50-50, coming from a coastal area to the bush but it's been excellent, we've loved it."
Shultz and his fiancée Liz Randall will both make the move. Randall is also no stranger to he industry having worked at Kooringal Stud, as well as a part-time swabbing steward.
Shultz will oversee Ballarat and the western districts, 17 clubs that include the likes of Stawell and Ararat.
"It will be good, obviously working with a pretty experienced team of stewards down there," he said.
"They're pretty well resourced across the state so certainly working with some experienced staff will be something to look forward to, albeit there will be days like Wagga Cup, Snake Gully Cup, they are days around here that are good days that you look forward to every year.
"I'll certainly be trying to get back for those days each year."
