HE'S a school teacher by trade, but Mangoplah-Cookardinia United-Eastlakes' Ryan Price is learning a few lessons himself after successfully reinventing himself as a defender this season.

Having captained the club and played representative football as a forward, Price has found a home on the unbeaten Goannas' halfback line.
A strong intercepter and rebounder, Price has also been given some tough assignments on some key rival forwards and held his own.
The 31-year-old has been named in MCUE's top three players in three of his seven games this year, and is relishing a new role with goal-kicking weapons Trent Castles and George Kendall locking down the main spots up forward.
"I'm really enjoying it, I haven't played in the back-line much before but this year Rowey (coach Jeremy Rowe) gave me a different role," he said.
"You can set the tone a bit more there and I find it a bit easier to be honest, everything's in front of you and it's quite a good position to play.
"We've got a pretty potent forward line and I can't quite squeeze in there."
The Goannas' back six have been hugely influential in maintaining their unbeaten run before Saturday's trip to Griffith.
"As a back six we are going really well. We have a chat before and after most games and we're pretty happy with how it's going," he said.
"We're trying to continually improve, we know we're not at 100 per cent yet and have plenty more to give. It's about working for each other and getting that team success."
MCUE is looking for a first flag since 1993. They lost consecutive grand finals to Collingullie-Glenfield Park in 2014 and 2015, but Price said breaking the drought won't be a burden.

"I know Mango lost a couple of grand finals five or six years ago, but I wasn't there and not many current players were," he said.
"There'd probably only be three or four guys at the club who would have been a part of it. It's not something we dwell on, it's a new side which hasn't experienced grand finals yet.
"We'd certainly love to be there, don't get me wrong."
Rowe said Price had become a reliable proposition down back, to the point where he is trusted to go to some of the league's best attacking weapons.
"He's played on the smaller players on the half back flank where he can focus on intercepting and rebounding. But he's had three really big jobs in George Alexander (GGGM), Mitch Ward (Turvey Park) and Brady Morton (Tigers), and done a good job on all three," Rowe said.
"He's playing excellent footy at the moment."
