Tumut, COVID restrictions spoil Gundagai's party

Not only where the Tigers beaten by arch rivals Tumut at Anzac Park on Saturday but the change of COVID-19 restrictions forced the cancellation of their reunion dinner.

Co-coach Jarrod Crane was left to rue a high error count in the 20-10 loss.

"It was disappointing on a big occasion not to come away with the wn but there were patches there where we should we can not only mix it with the top teams but get over the top of them," Crane said.

"In other patches we just beat ourselves with too much drop ball and not taking advantage of good field position when we finally got it."

Crane was thrilled with how the Tigers defended their own line in the first half.

However it came at a cost in the back end.

"I thought our on-line defence was outstanding in the first half but because we had to do so much of that it showed when Tumut came away with the rewards due to our fatigue in the second half," he said.

"We need to stop putting ourselves under so much pressure."

Meanwhile Tigers secretary Martin Hay was left devastated by the late cancellation of their reunion dinner.

With a sold out dinner of 350 people, the changes announced by the NSW state government during the game left little choice but to call it off.

"It's heartbreaking," Hay said.

"We've been planning this for 18 months and the government to turn around and give you two hours notice.

"It was booked out for 350 and people have come from far and wide."

Gundagai have the bye this week before another clash with Tumut at Laurie Daley Oval on July 18.

Co-coach Luke Berkrey limped off late in the game with a calf complaint but it was the only injury concern from the clash which featured the return of Blake Dunn.
