'NOTHING TO DO WITH HUMANS'
Des Goonan poses a good question. He asks the climate doomsday cult to supply "an undeniable fact" to support so-called "climate change" ("Seeking climate change facts", June 18).

Well, the easy proof is that: there have been climatic ice-ages; it is not a climatic ice-age now; therefore, Earth experiences climate change. That's an undeniable fact.
It is a simple equation but Mr Goonan's question is still excellent because the answer is not what the doomsday sect wants to admit: every single one of Earth's provable climate changes has had nothing to do with humans, let alone any of the sins with which we are now accused. Earth climate change has never had anything to do with coal power, gas heaters, belching cows, petrol cars or supermarket bags. We like to imagine that we can "fix" the climate because that's the gene that makes us humans - we think that everything is about "us" and we despise the thought that this world might just have its own ideas about what it's going to do - as it always has - with or without the cultic input of climate gibberers.

PREVENTION BETTER THAN CURE
It's probably impossible to change the mind of Des Goonan but here goes ("Seeking climate change facts", June 18).
ElectraNet and TransGrid forecast that the new interconnector between SA and NSW will benefit both states.
It will eventually reduce power bills, enhance "security of supply for South Australia" and provide "diverse low-cost renewable generation sources to New South Wales".
It is scheduled to be ready for the retirement of coal-fired Liddell Power Station in NSW.
In regard to the reality of climate change, Mr Goonan just has to do some reading. Dr Karl's "Little Book of Climate Change Science" is a good place to start.
The NASA graph at https://climate.nasa.gov/evidence/ clearly shows how CO2 levels have not been this high for 800,000 years and are rising steeply. Anyone who bothers to look at the graph will be shocked.
Greenhouse gases are causing the planet to warm rapidly and even in the most optimistic outlook, 1.2 billion people will fall outside the comfortable "climate niche" in which humans have thrived for thousands of years leading to mass migration and threats to global peace.
The future is never certain, and two sayings come to mind: Better to be safe than sorry and prevention is better than cure.

BENEFITS OF NUCLEAR AND COAL
The proposed power line from Wagga to South Australia will most likely be used to send electricity from NSW to South Australia. Why? Because SA is the state that has blackouts, not NSW. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. So in SA when they ceased using coal-fired power, they started having blackouts.
Their power costs have risen to being the highest electricity charges in the world and they exceed those of even Denmark and Germany. The cheapest power comes from nuclear and coal. We in Australia should be taking advantage of this cheap power.
Australia should be selling nuclear fuel and coal to Third World countries. This alone will lead to their prosperity and better living standards.
