In the lead up to the Upper Hunter byelection earlier this year, former NSW Labor leader Jodi McKay announced that she does not support a moratorium on new coal mines, stating "if there is a market for our export coal we've got to be supporting that market".

It would be wise for Wagga's Labor Party representatives to follow this party line and refrain from campaigning upon an environmental platform in Wagga Wagga City Council's election later this year.

VALE TO COURAGEOUS ACADEMIC
Fairly recently, Father Brendan Lee, in his Daily Advertiser column, warned of the damage done to Australian people and society by porn.
Australian writer Melinda Tankard Reist (reported in the Catholic Weekly, May 30) gives voice to the victims of pornography.
She gave a talk to a school class then had a letter from a year 8 girl with a distressing experience of how girls are treated in the classroom - with endless discussion of female genitalia and the willingness, or otherwise, of girls to experience various sexual acts.
In the same issue of the Catholic Weekly was a full-page article: "Kinsey: Crimes and Consequences" by Judith Ann Reisman, a Jewish-American academic who wrote many articles and books exposing the father of the sexual revolution, Alfred Kinsey.
READ MORE LETTERS:
Judith was born in 1935 and died suddenly in April this year.
Columnist Anna Krohn likened Reisman to the ancient Jewish saviour of her people (Judith). The ancient Hebrew words associated with the virtue of Judith is "ometz lev" and it captures a combination of righteousness and courage.
Reisman's own daughter was raped at the age of 10 by a neighbourhood teenager who was a known sex offender.
Krohn writes that Reisman's grief was compounded by family inaction, with the dismissive line, "Ah well ... children are sexual from birth". Her outrage set her on her life's work, but the world was unwilling to listen.
Reisman, according to Krohn, became aware that the supposedly "soft porn" such as Playboy and Penthouse had cartoons and images that were not only exploitative of fragile women like Marilyn Monroe but overtly suggestive of infants and children as sexual objects and agents.
As she followed her nose to the source, Krohn writes that "Judith realised that 'hiding in plain sight' were the pseudo-scientific grounds for the acceptance of 'diminished' moral outrage and legal sanctions against pederasty and other sexual crimes".
Krohn writes that Reisman discovered that "Alfred Kinsey, the 'venerated' founder of contemporary sexual ideology, was himself a sexual predator (she would say "psychopath") who had employed the sexual offenders and misfits unable to enter the military during the Second World War".
"Shocked she found that the vested interests in the big media, big porn and other agencies and businesses moved to discredit and silence her findings" when published, according according to Krohn.
Reisman continued to publish and speak around the world and in 1992 she visited Canberra and spoke to the National Press Club about the damage of pornography.
Vale to a 21st century Judith!
