The Dragons had plenty of opportunities with the ball but struggled to make the Cherrypickers pay.
Young coach Nick Hall was impressed by his rivals after coming away with a 20-10 win.
"It was a game where we thought we were always in control of but Temora made us fight for it," Hall said.
"Defensively I thought we were pretty good. They didn't throw heaps at us but were always at us and Josh (McCrone) kicked well to help them play good field position."
Veney made the most of his return, after Ben McAlpine was ruled out through injury, to bag a double on the wing.
