Upstaged in his heat by kennelamte Usman Bale last week, Yozo Bale produced the goods when it counted most.

Trainer Correy Grenfell rated him the best of his and wife Samantha's four chances in the final.

Fresh off group one success with the Wagga bred and owned Tiggerlong Tonk on Thursday night, he was proven right.

"He was always going to navigate himself a bit better than last week," Grenfell said.

"It was more a matter of him running straight out of the boxes, which he half did."

After struggling from box one in his heat, which was his first experience at the track, Grenfell thought Yozo Bale ($4.20 fav) would be much better suited from the eight.

He just managed to cross his rivals heading into the first turn and from there dictated terms to win by over four lengths to clock a slick 29.84 seconds.

It was the second fastest winning time at the track with Deliver setting the record of 29.71 in the 2019 Million Dollar Chase heats.

"He's probably a different class over them dogs and he knows how to get the job done on the big stage," Grenfell said.

It was a successful night out for the Victorian couple with their heat winners Xavien Bale and Usman Bale filling the minor placings.

It was their second attempt at the cup after finishing second and third behind Max Destruction in 2016.

The prizemoney increase to $30,000 was an extra incentive to make the trip.

"When we come up last time it was $15,000 and we looked at as Tonk was our main hope for the Harrison Dawson and Yozo probably couldn't beat those dogs," Grenfell said.

"Wagga being on at the same time was the perfect second option."

Meanwhile The Rock trainer Brian Smith tasted success with Dust Storm in the Wayne 'Butch' Pertzel Memorial.

Dust Storm disappointed after finishing fourth in his heat but Smith was thrilled with the response.

"I was disappointed in his heat last week as he had his box and just went a bit ordinary," Smith said.

"But he's been good this week, done everything and he jumped a lot better than what he has been.

"When I saw him so close over the back I thought we were a big chance."

Dust Storm ($16) finished over the top of Jasmine Izmir ($18) to win by 1.5 lengths.

Meanwhile Reefton trainer Chris Cooney scored his first win on Wagga's biggest night.

In just his third attempt, Cooney took out the Men of League Agro 1-4 Win Final (320m) with Regal Torana.
