A Toyota sedan was detected by highway patrol members north of Holbrook about 9am on Tuesday.
The car was seen travelling at 129km/h, causing police to intercept the vehicle.
The Toyota stopped and officers approached, but it sped off and travelled south in the northbound lanes of the highway at high speeds into oncoming traffic.
The chase was terminated due to safety concerns.
The vehicle turned off the highway and went onto a rural property in the Gerogery area before being found unattended by police.
The Victoria Police air wing was called in as officers attempted to locate the occupants.
After a lengthy search which involved scouring rugged terrain, a 37-year-old man and 33-year-old woman were found on Knox Road at Table Top.
