Despite only having 10 players for the entire game, the new-look Wagga side proved too strong for their crosstown rivals on Saturday.
Elise Smith crossed for a double in the win and she was one of the new faces to impress coach Mark Macarthur.
"We only had 10 for the day but we still managed to notch up the win," Macarthur said.
Amber Hallam also impressed as she stepped up into senior football in the halves.
Waratahs scored a 27-15 win but it was their defensive effort that really impressed.
"There was a good six minutes where Aggies were on our line but our defensive effort was outstanding," Macarthur said.
"It is all good to be able to score tries but you have to be able to defend.
"Aggies did score but the girls really dug in, especially with no subs to get through."
Waratahs are set for another big test when they travel to face Griffith on Saturday.
After sitting out last season, the 2019 premiers kicked off with a bang to take a 44-0 win over Hay.
Ofa Siale crossed for a hat-trick while Amelia Lolotonga scored twice.
Coach Lama Lolotonga was proud of the way his side has started the season and felt that their calm heads helped them to prevail.
"I think the experience the girls have gave them an edge and their patience as well," Lolotonga said.
"Hay came out really fired up, they came out really quick in defence, and our girls were patient and then went from there.
"I am very proud of their performance in their first hit out."
Albury also pulled off a surprise as they got the better of perennial powerhouses CSU.
In a first for the club, the Steamers came away 32-17 winners as part of a clean sweep.
Jade Batten scored a double in the win.
Wagga CIty also put on plenty of points to start their season despite having a number of cards dished out.
Sylvia Lim was red card for a high tackle in the 47-17 win over Leeton while Sarah Deaner and Chloe Holgate both picked up yellows.
They take on CSU next week while Albury hosts Ag College.
