Lawton's eye-catching performance was one of the big talking points at Langtry Oval after Marrar demolished the Jets 16.9 (105) to 3.2 (20).
"He's a quality footballer but he's just happy to be in the team," coach Shane Lenon said.
"He kicked goals but he was very unselfish, he did a lot team acts and tackles, he applied pressure and he also set up goals. He hit the scoreboard, yes, but I was just as impressed with his teamwork."
The tall forward was one of seven new faces in a side that produced a consistent effort first-up, with the lead steadily climbing by the quarter from two goals, to four, to 10, and ultimately 14 goals.
"I'm really happy with how they gelled and played as a team. They ripped in, their pressure and tackling was really good," Lenon said.
"I thought they would but until you get them playing together, it's a bit of an unknown. But they played really good, team footy."
The Jets were kept to just five scoring shots. The experienced Ryan Quade kicked two of their goals before swinging back to try to stem the bleeding.
But Marrar, with Chris O'Donnell, Jackson Moye and Zach Walgers instrumental in the midfield and youngsters Sam Emery and Harry Reynolds impressing, weren't to be stopped.
HAPPY FACES: Marrar enjoyed their winning return to football.

Rhys Mooney's day finished early due to a hamstring worry or cork, while the Northern Jets lost Sam Fisher with a shoulder problem. He also had ice on a hamstring, and was one of a couple of injury concerns for the visitors.
Mitch Haddrill was their best while new ruckman Lachlan Jones dug in. They welcome Barellan next week in a big local derby at Ardlethan.
The Bombers head to Peter Hastie Oval to take on CSU, in the only game between two round one winners.
Lenon was also thrilled in the strong performance at home to mark the return of football to Langtry Oval, where they've been waiting for a year to unveil their new clubrooms.
"It was a brilliant day out at Marrar with the opening of The Hangar and a massive crowd there. It was a pretty special day and it was good to be a part of it, that's for sure," Lenon said.
