A driver was caught out with illicit drugs in his system while on the way to Tumut Police Station to collect a friend who was stopped for the same offence.

Acting Sergeant Adam White said officers from Riverina Highway Patrol conducted a high-visibility operation targeting alcohol and drug-affected drivers at Tumbarumba and Tumut.
"We detected 11 drivers with illegal drugs in their system, one with low-range alcohol, one suspended driver and one possessing prohibited drug," he said.

Then, Sergeant White said, a friend who came to pick him up, was then caught out for the exact same offence.
In total officers issued 17 penalty notices, 12 defect notices, and charged one driver for driving whilst suspended and another for drug possession.
Sergeant White said it was concerning that these small towns were producing high numbers of people driving whilst impaired.
