Brothers have undergone plenty of changes since finishing fourth last season.
However new co-coach James Hay thought there were plenty of positives to take from the 28-22 win at Parramore Park on Saturday.
"I'm happy as a lot of the younger boys stood up and we did what we've been doing at training," Hay said.
"We're trying to focus on defence to start off with and that's what we did so I'm pretty happy."
Among the new changes to impress was hooker Sam Macklan while Bill Sainsbury showed plenty of speed on the wing after both made the switch from Kangaroos.

Tristan Dickson also scored the final of the match while Hay was pleased with the new halves combination in Josh Siegwalt and Edan Price.
"They are both talkers, both have a lot to offer so I think we'll start there, which should be good," he said.
Hay was also pleased with the start Rhys Weldon and Tomasi Baravilala had in the front row.
Brothers head to the nines on Saturday before having another trial against Cooma on March 27.
After giving a large number of players their shot, Hay will use the Cooma hit out as a more genuine build up.
"There is a lot of blokes coming off playing not a lot of footy in the last two years," he said. "A lot didn't play last year or played four or five games so game time is what we need and what we're going to look for in the next couple of weeks before the season."
