The Mater Dei student clocked 1:07.09 in the 12-13 years 100m freestyle to beat the previous record set by Moama Grammar's Olivia Wright by exactly half a second.
It was one of two records for Donelan on her way to the age championship after also setting a new benchmark in the 50m backstroke (36.33).
The standout performers qualified for the NSW independent and catholic schools championships, both of which will be held in Sydney towards the end of this month.
"It was great to see the effort by the students and the competition between the independent and Catholic kids, we really encourage that," carnival co-convenor Anthony Hood said.
"We got three or four heats per event, so our numbers were up.
"There's 12 independent and five Catholic schools competing and we definitely appreciate the support of Wagga Swim Club, as well as the Mater Dei students who helped out with timekeeping."
Schools travelled from all across the region to compete, including from Albury, MIA and the south west.
