The five-time Brian Lawrence Medal winner has been up and down since a scintillating effort in the Twenty20 final, but was definitely on song against Kooringal Colts at McPherson Oval on Saturday.
Nicoll finished unbeaten on 109 as the Cats finished their 50 overs at 3-254.
He then snared two early wickets to put Colts under more pressure.
Nicoll was pleased to contribute to a win leading into finals.
"I think this year I've been ordinary in terms of my inconsistency from week-to-week," Nicoll said.
"I reckon I've been pretty poor so it was nice to spend some time in the middle, the guys did really well and to get a good win was really good."
While David Bolton continued his good form with 51 at the top of the order, the big run chase was too much for Colts.
The 95-run loss didn't cost them a finals spot, but Colts will be looking to keep their season alive when they face Wagga RSL, who beat them by one-wicket last week.
Cats are on the hunt for a finals berth and Nicoll is looking for the premiers' senior players to stand tall.
"We have to be better than what we have been but that is the challenge of having a really young team," he said.
"Sometimes I think we forget how young our side is, and we are still trying to develop a lot of those young guys. We're trying to pump these young guys through, but it takes time and if the senior blokes don't play well you can't be relying on the young blokes to fill the gap."
