Cameron James Tyson Cole fronted Wagga Local Court on Monday and pleaded guilty to high-range drink-driving.

About 9pm on December 12, the 25-year-old was driving along Inglewood road when he lost control, causing the vehicle to turn onto its side.

In documents tendered to the court, it states police attended shortly after and asked Cole for his licence when they observed a strong odour of intoxicating liquor coming from his breath and his eyes were bloodshot.

Cole told them that a car travelling south on Bakers Lane entered the intersection causing him to swerve to avoid it, resulting in the crash.

He also told them he had six full-strength beers starting at 5pm and the last one five minutes before the crash.

A roadside breath test showed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.150. His solicitor Morgan Jones said he pleaded guilty to this offence at the first opportunity.

"It was not his intention to drive that evening," he said. "In regards to the seriousness of the matter, it is the collision itself which is of concern ... on balance, he was not at fault."

Mr Jones said there was no other evidence of erratic driving.

"He has expressed genuine remorse in his letter [to the magistrate] for making the decision he did," he said. "The Traffic Offenders Intervention Program brought home to him just how serious the consequences could have been."

Magistrate Christopher Halburd said it was a case that "reads worse than it is".

Cole was convicted and slapped with a $1000 fine with the mandatory disqualification for six months and an interlock for 24 months.
