In one of the bigger wins of the week, North Wagga beat Griffith on their own turf, 7.10 (52) to 1.0 (6).
Saints player Sarah Harmer said the whole team made the trip to Griffith on Friday night, with six newcomers to the sport among their 12 debutants.
"It was really good to get back out there," Harmer said.
Humid conditions lead to a low scoring start to the match as players re-adjusted to the physical demands of the sport.
"We were all kind of exhausted before we even started ... it was really good to be able to have that rotation between us," Harmer said.
The Saints held the Swans scoreless in the first half while kicking 3.6 themselves.
The game opened up as it progressed, with the Swans hitting the scoreboard with a third quarter goal before the Saints broke the game open in the fourth to win by 46 points.
Harden said the Saints spent much of the game adjusting to their positions and the new line-up, but as the match progressed they were able to work on their handball skills and getting out of trouble.
"Once we kind of got our motion going, we really went out and just really got behind each other," she said.
One percenters and a focus on the little things have been key messages for Saints heading into the season.
Without a scoreboard visible to players at the ground, Harden said they were able to focus less on the score and more on learning.
"Everyone was really positive and with our team, we know we really wanted to work on making sure the game was enjoyable and we learned something," Harden said.
Among the top players for the Saints was Megan Porter who scored two goals early.
Emma McClelland and Nat Creed also kicked two apiece while debutant Casey Quade's ruck work was a highlight.
In other first round matches, Charles Sturt University continued their dominance with a 16 point win over new team Ganmain-Grong Grong Matong.
Ineka Hart put the Lions in front early before their more experienced rivals responded.
Meanwhile, Collingullie-Glenfield Park took the win in their first ever match, holding Narrandera goalless.
The Demons built into their performance to score a 3.9 (27) to 0.3 (3) victory.
And in a dominant performance, East Wagga-Kooringal showed off their new Riverina Lions recruits with a 7.13 (55) to 0.1 (1) victory against Brookdale Bluebells.
